Running Around the Calendar

Haiku

Haiku (Photo credit: lux2night)

Seasons come and seasons go: isn’t that the old song? Today’s writing prompt for the month centers on Seasons. Choose a season, use that for your title, write a poem about it; that was the prompt.

I can do that. That’s a simple fix for my poetry habit. Haiku is the answer for days when time is running in short supply. I admit, though, that at least one of these is a bit irreverent. Can you pick out the one(s)?

Winter

Popcorn ball flakes sail,

With winds howling for fear’s sake,

Drifting to bring peace.

Spring

Seeds’ green heads waver,

Nodding to sky in joy,

Leaving Dark for Light.

Summer

Daisies keep cow friends

Company on sunshine days,

Giving selves as food.

Fall

Squirrels hurry on,

Gathering winter’s food choice,

Quarrel over safes.

I may take another crack at it late this afternoon, so stay tuned for developing events. Take care, all. Enjoy yourselves. Tell your friends to stop by. They’re not obligated to sign a contract or anything. TTFN

hi Claudsy, I can’t tell you again how much I too love nature. I like haiku too. It has just been such a long time that I tried it. But I just might now.

Oh, Val, that’s super. I’m so glad that you’re willing to try again. It soothes the mind, you know.

Hello, I love Haiku as well. Here’s my winter one –

    I built a snowman
With a carrot for a nose
    But then he melted

Kat, thank you for adding your take on “season.” Have you been doing haiku for very long? Have you participated in some of the haiku sites around the net?

Your words certainly captured a single aspect of winter play. Thank you for sharing.

Hello, I’ve been doing Haiku for a few years, as and when the mood takes me 🙂 No I haven’t taken part in any Haiku sites, but I’d like to 🙂

Yes it wasn’t specifically about winter, but an aspect of it. I do have some nice autumn ones about the crunchy leaves etc.

Good for you, Katerina. You’ll have to check out some of the other sites that specialize in haiku. You could try NaHaiWriMo, which has daily prompts.
